The Mooring-2012

3.5 out of 5 screams

Tagline: “Every 40 seconds a person goes missing. In northern Idaho, a group of teenage girls attended a summer camp to help them connect with nature without technology. They were told it would be a summer of change. As the girls’ houseboat is suddenly stranded in the middle of the river an odd couple comes to their aid. What was supposed to be a healing retreat turns deadly as the girls find themselves on the run, being pursued through the forest by a brutal and determined killer.”

First off, let me say that the cast of this movie, is superb. All the of the actresses are under 18, and are phenomenal talents considering their age.  This film is definitely worth checking out, but it IS more a suspense movie than it is a horror movie. But dont think for a second that they spare any blood or violence, even with the all teen cast.

That being said, the movie is writhe with the usual questions of  ” Why the hell did they do that???!!!”. Or better yet, you find yourself screaming at the screen: “RUN”. But they dont run, and the girls that have fallen victim seem to make a myriad of cliche horror movie decisions.  The antagonists make use of cliches as well: They appear out of nowhere, seem to know the area like the backs of their hands, and always seem to catch the trail of our victims. These plot devices are what make the movie weak, despite the great acting by all of our characters.

You also find yourself questioning our antagonists. What are their motivations? A little bit of back story would have been nice. Despite the fact that you know pretty much the same thing about these people as our victims do. These people are evil, regardless of reason. But why?

Its ultimately a flawed film, because of the neglect to details of the plot. However, the film never seems to drag, as you get action from the very beginning. Theres a brief period of character introduction and youre right back into the action. So its not boring by any means. It is however, predictable.

Worth the $1.00 you pay to get it from Redbox? I think so.
